Connecteam Overview

Connecteam

Connecteam is a software tool for tracking time that provides a wide range of functions designed to boost teamwork and efficiency.

It serves as an HR tool, a time clock, a scheduling tool, a task management tool, a way to complete digital forms and checklists, and even a platform for team communication. It positions itself as a one-stop shop for all business operation needs, which gives it a somewhat ambitious reach.

However, does it live up to the hype?

We decided to give it a try to find out.

Connecteam's Standout Features

Accurate Employee Time Clock

Connecteam's user-friendly time clock with sophisticated GPS capabilities enables staff members to record precise hours worked.

With the use of desktop software, on-site kiosks, or even a single tap on mobile cellphones while on the go, teams can streamline time tracking by clocking in and out quickly and easily.

For organizations that operate on-site or on the road, like construction, field service, logistics, retail, and hospitality, this opens up a whole world of opportunities.

With Connecteam's geofencing and geolocation capabilities, employers also have an advantage in guaranteeing staff attendance and preventing time fraud.

While the geofencing tool enables administrators to create virtual boundaries to limit where employees can start and finish monitoring hours, GPS tracking enables them to pinpoint the precise locations where staff members clock in and out.

They can even view employee movements on a map while they are on the clock by using Breadcrumbs technology for live tracking. When GPS-powered time tracking is as advanced as Connecteam's, it increases employee safety and productivity, protects project profitability, provides crucial documentation, and gives administrators the peace of mind that comes with knowing that buddy punching and time theft are nearly impossible.

Before payroll, users can examine, review, and edit the digital timesheets that automatically organize the hours recorded by Connecteam's time-tracking capabilities.

The program automatically detects anomalies to guarantee that workers receive appropriate compensation and that businesses are shielded from expensive payroll errors.

Connecteam features

Robust Attendance, Overtime, and Break Management

Connecteam's solutions for managing attendance, breaks, time off, and overtime simplify the difficult task of adhering to attendance regulations and managing schedules.

Employers can encourage the importance of being present and showing up by using the Connecteams employee attendance policy template.

Employers can learn more about who is arriving at exactly the right place and time, who is tardy, who failed to log in or out at the designated time and location, and who just failed to show up thanks to data collected from time tracking and GPS monitoring.

Additionally, Connecteam handles the administrative burden and expedites the processing of time off schedules, requests, and approval when employees must take time off as required by law.

With its user-friendly scheduling that enables flexible, fully customized, and automatic break scheduling catered to the particular requirements of any firm, it also simplifies compliance with state break rules.

By automatically calculating overtime pay and easily exporting the results to payroll, Connecteam also helps businesses save time and money.

Automated and Highly-Detailed Reports

Business choices rely heavily on reports, which are also a liability for those who are responsible for writing them.

For individuals who are still using the pen-and-paper method, the process of preparing reports can be a complete nightmare, even though their significance in directing future actions cannot be understated.

Using precisely recorded data from the employee time clock, GPS tracking, expense monitoring, and project documentation, Connecteam makes reporting simple.

Using strong filters that go to the heart of the issue, the software arranges all the data into logical, easily readable information that can be presented in whichever best meets business needs. This is particularly helpful for client billing and making sure payroll is never late.

The best part is that, without any user interaction, they can be routinely transmitted to the specified recipients as PDF or Excel files in-app or via email.

This is a set-and-forget scenario where administrators only need to set up settings once and never again. For as long as they are required, the reports will always be sent on time.

Task Management and Scheduling

The scheduling and task management capabilities in Connecteam are last on our list of exceptional features, but they are by no means the least.

There are a lot of aspects to take into account, including availability, qualifications, time off, preferences, and much more, making it difficult and time-consuming for business owners to create a well-rounded employee schedule.

This procedure will undoubtedly take many torturous hours using traditional spreadsheet and paper-based solutions, and the final product will nearly certainly contain errors and inconsistencies that would take considerably more time to fix.

With Connecteam's auto-scheduling feature, administrators can easily design personnel schedules that maximize available resources, eliminating the hassle of the process.

By automating the process, errors are decreased, consistency is guaranteed, time and money are saved, productivity is increased, and employee satisfaction is maintained.

Customer Support and User Experience

One of Connecteam’s biggest perks is how easy the product is to use which is something users often praise for its ease of use and simple onboarding process. Customer support includes email, chat, and a very vast knowledge base 24/7.

Still, others find that with quick response times, the level of support for more complex technical issues isn’t as in-depth as it is from larger HR platforms.

The overall feedback from users is very positive with regards to the software and the support but although few people have reported glitches in the Android app it also seems to be intuitively easy to use.

Connecteam Positive Reviews

  • "Onboarding and implementing was easy. Pleasant UI, features to assign tasks and send push notifications, a 'wall' for feeds such as messages and updates for all the staff, structured roles (admin/manager/staff) as well as locations, and ease in creating intuitive groups of contacts. Reminders about anniversaries are also a nice touch. Easy access to the account in the browser (I usually have it open in one of the tabs when I'm at work)." – Lidia B., Operations Manager
  • "Connecteam has allowed my business to provide a better experience to not only my clients but also my staff. We now can see the upcoming schedule weeks and months in advance. This allows for greater stability in scheduling work, accuracy for my clients, and peace of mind for my staff. We also use the Time Clock on a daily basis and everyone loves it." – Mike C., President/CEO
  • "This is one of the most user-friendly apps I have ever used. Every staff member, regardless of their 'techy' knowledge, has been able to use this with next to no effort. We implemented this app in the beginning of this season, and it went very smoothly. The ability to share a message directly with an individual, a group, or my entire staff is amazing—it helps engage employees and gets people communicating with others they normally may not." – Cristina C., Office Manager

Verdict: Connecteam offers an intuitive, user-friendly platform that simplifies task management, scheduling, communication, and employee engagement, enhancing both staff coordination and client satisfaction.

Connecteam Negative Reviews

  • "The mobile app often takes a long time to load the Chat functionality (the main reason we use Connecteam), and sometimes I have to force-close the app and reopen it for the Chat to appear (otherwise, there is only a white background and bottom navbar). Media sent between users could be delivered in better quality and should be easier to copy/save/zoom/etc." – Lidia B., Operations Manager
  • "The one piece that we find to be missing within Connecteam is a CRM-type function to track updates or changes to jobs as they happen. Otherwise, it's virtually perfect!" – Mike C., President/CEO
  • "The app definitely has glitches that can affect day-to-day business, such as missing features like highlighting schedule conflicts. Another downside is the limited functions of the mobile app for admins, with some views not filtering by user and fewer shift customization options." – Long W., Founder/Owner

Verdict: Users report that Connecteam’s mobile app has loading issues, limited media handling, lacks CRM-like features, and misses key admin tools and scheduling options for smooth daily operations.

Homebase Overview

Homebase

Homebase takes pride in offering small businesses an all-in-one tool for scheduling, payroll, and time tracking.

Additionally, it provides useful features for employee feedback, team communication, HR and compliance, and hiring and onboarding. It's among the more complete team management options available today.

Nevertheless, it's strange that payroll, a fundamental function, is only offered as an add-on. You are also charged by location with Homebase.

Because it is free for a single site, it is ideal for businesses who have a single location and employ hourly workers. Some scattered companies may choose to look into other possibilities.

Homebase Standout Features

Time Tracking and Timesheets

With Homebase's time clock, your staff can clock in and out from nearly any device, including desktop computers, tablets, cellphones, and even point-of-sale devices.

They can either manually generate a time entry later or use the timer to clock in. Additionally, they can clock out at the end of a shift and record any breaks they take.

Additionally, you can use your team members' own PIN numbers to have them clock in from a central computer or tablet instead of their own devices.

In order to maintain correct data, Homebase automatically clocks employees out when they forget to log their hours.

In order to monitor productivity and prevent needless labor expenses, it also notifies you of overtime and late clock-ins. Unfortunately, the All-in-One package is the only one that offers these benefits.

You have the ability to update and modify time entries as a manager or administrator. Remarkably, when employees clock in, Homebase can take their pictures or GPS whereabouts. Additionally, geofences can be created to stop employees from recording time when they are not on the job site.

The fact that the time tracking tool only records time to the closest minute disappoints us. Some time clocks, such as the one from Connecteam, are accurate to the closest second. Here, precision has more leeway.

Homebase features

Payroll

Homebase has an advantage over many other apps because it has its own payroll software. When timesheets are prepared, you may quickly pay your staff by syncing them with payroll. To make things even simpler, Homebase also allows you to set up zero-click auto-payroll.

Homebase computes and submits employer and employee taxes to the state and IRS, as well as assisting with proper wages. Additionally, the software provides W-2s for your employees and 1099s for your contractors.

Allowing workers to "cash out," or access, up to $400 of their pay in advance, is another significant perk that Homebase provides.

And here's the thing: you don't have to worry because Homebase assumes the liability. This is a fantastic approach to empower your employees without incurring extra costs or risks.

Before being paid, workers can e-sign their payroll forms, and the app lets them know when they've been paid. This keeps everything clear and uncluttered.

All things considered, Homebase has mastered its payroll system, but it costs a lot. It's not exactly economical with a $39 monthly fixed price and an extra $6 per employee.

Fortunately, Homebase has integrations with Gusto, Paychex, and a few other payroll companies. This provides you with the choice to use

Time Management and Scheduling

The Homebase scheduling tool displays the overall number of hours worked, the allotted shifts, and the estimated weekly labor expenditures.

To adhere to labor standards, you can establish policies for breaks, overtime, and time off (including PTO and black-out periods) with Homebase. Unfortunately, only the Plus and All-in-One plans allow you to accomplish this.

In contrast, even on its most affordable package, the Deputy provides PTO and break management.

Additionally, Homebase maintains your employees' availability and allows them to seek leave using the app, allowing you to plan when designing plans. To save time, our platform makes it simple to generate schedules from scratch, duplicate existing schedules, and even create templates for recurring shifts.

However, the auto-scheduling function is what we found most useful. Based on labor targets, sales projections, and employee availability, the software generates the best schedules.

It can also be configured to allow employees to select among available shifts according to their preferences. Just switch shifts and alert affected employees with a few clicks in the unlikely event of a conflict or last-minute issue.

This lessens disagreements and mistakes while also making the procedure less painful.

Team Communication

One of the few options with an in-app messenger is Homebase. To send announcements to the entire organization, start a group chat, or send a one-on-one message to your employees, just click on the message icon.

Additionally, Homebase has included tools for improved communication in a few of its other features. When posting shifts, for example, you can include thorough annotations so that everyone is aware of their responsibilities.

Regretfully, you can only add text. Instructions can occasionally be more effectively conveyed by music, video, and graphics, however, Homebase does not support these forms.

Homebase also notifies you when your team has viewed their schedules, which is helpful if you're a worrier like me.

Usability and Interface

We admired Homebase's user-friendly web interface. It features a large typeface, a contemporary look, and text that is evenly spaced. Everything is the same shade of white and purple.

The simplicity appealed to me, but some people might need more visual signals to find what they're looking for.

You can explore Homebase's main features, such as timesheets, scheduling, payroll, and hiring, using the left sidebar. Additionally, it enables you to examine reports, access your admin dashboard, and edit company information.

But it took me a minute to locate the team chat and time tracking tools, which are represented by tiny icons on the top bar. We wish there had been a search option to use for assistance or that I could have located these more quickly.

The features are easy to set up and intuitive. The scheduling tool, for instance, opens in a view of the weekly calendar. To create a new shift, click on a certain date and time box. In this manner, as you create the schedule, you may see your entire week.

Homebase Positive Reviews

  • "What I liked about Homebase was how easy it was to monitor timesheets and coordinate with scheduling. There were subsections at the bottom of the app that took you right to these, which was helpful. There was also a section for communication where you could create groups or message individually with coworkers." – Verified User, Oil & Energy
  • "There's a lot to love about Homebase. The website and app are extremely user-friendly. Perhaps my two favorite parts about the app are the ability for my staff to request time off via the app and to trade or cover shifts. I was getting several texts a day, and this is much less invasive." – Paris P., Small-Business
  • "You can check your schedule/swap shifts. Also, if you need to request time off or a sick day, you can do it right on the app! Shows you your earnings by week. There's also a chat board to keep in quick contact with all coworkers." – Dane B., Account Representative

Verdict: Homebase is highly praised for its user-friendly design, simplifying scheduling, timesheet monitoring, and communication, making shift management and time-off requests seamless for employees and managers alike.

Homebase Negative Reviews

  • "They were very helpful and interested in my needs prior to signing me up and now that we paid and signed up, it’s all crickets on their end. They have not replied to multiple customer service requests I’ve made." – Justin B., Head of Aftermarket Sales
  • "Homebase seems to be more food service oriented from the best available option to suit our company’s immediate needs. They're also pretty limited on the number of 'roles' which a user can access, and the limitations for what these roles can do seem pretty cut and dry." – Verified User, Oil & Energy
  • "Scheduling is a pain and a half. I’ve had several feature requests put in by support, and none of them have been addressed. There’s no way to filter roles by departments, even though that’s how they want you to filter roles. Most annoyingly, there is no way to upload a schedule from a flat file or CSV." – Verified User, Online Media

Verdict: Many users report Homebase's poor post-signup support, limited customization options, and inflexible scheduling features, leaving key functionality requests unaddressed.

Homebase Pricing

The Basic plans from Homebase are free and provide essential services for one location with up to 20 employees.

The Essentials plan ($24.95 per location, per month, up from $15.00 per location) provides advanced features for businesses that require more capable features such as remote work tools and messaging features.

For $59.95 per month per location, you get better performance tracking and labor cost management tools added in, with the Plus plan.

The All-in-One plan at $99.95 per month per location gives you full HR features, onboarding, and advanced reporting. Also, businesses can pay a $39 per month fee plus $6 per employee for payroll services that include automated tax filing and direct deposits.

An annual subscription from Homebase comes with a 30 percent discount, which, considering it’s a cost-saving alternative to Homebase, is an enticing prospect for businesses looking to maintain sanity sans complications.
